These Chocolate Nut Oat Balls are one of my go to favorite treats if I am craving something sweet or chocolaty. They are dairy and gluten free, can be put together in just 10 minutes and perfect to enjoy with a cup of tea ☕
They are heart healthy as they contain good fats from coconut oil, almonds and flax seeds. And, just two balls provides 4 grams of fiber (women over 40 need 21-25 grams per day) which helps keep you feeling satisfied and full in between meals. So you will be less likely to grab something not so healthy!
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup almonds
- 1/3 cup flax meal
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 tbsp lite craisons or cocoa nibs
Instructions
- Grind almonds first in food processor. Add all of the other ingredients and mix to combine.
- Roll into 12 small balls.
- Store in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for 3 weeks.
- Enjoy!
Nutrition in each ball:
75 calories each ball   7.5 grams carbs   2 grams fiber    4 grams sugar    2 grams protein   4.5 grams healthy fat
Notice how they are balanced in macro nutrients? They contain a good balance of Protein, Carbohydrates and Healthy Fat. And bonus- Fiber too 🙂
Balancing our macros (proteins, fat, and carbs) at each meal is one of the things I teach all of my clients to do. It’s also the foundation for all of my nutrition plans. This helps your blood sugars to stay balanced (so you won’t get the insulin spike- sugar rush- crash- cravings increase cycle) because your food is digested at a slower pace when it consists of more than just carbohydrates on their own.
Would you like to know the first place I start my clients off when they are trying to lose weight and be healthier? It’s breakfast!
Why? Because it sets you up for a successful day. You will be less likely to have cravings, your blood sugars will be stable, and you will be more likely to stay on track and make healthy choices.
A breakfast balanced in macros will also kick-start your metabolism to get you fat burning instead of storing it!
