Nothing drives me crazier than when I hear women in their 50’s and beyond say this!!And this is something I see and hear all the time.🙁“I don’t want to lift anything heavier because I don’t want to hurt myself or build big, bulky looking muscles. I just want to tone up so I’m focusing on light weights and cardio.”First of all, what exactly is “tone”.A toned looking body is a body with muscle and a lower body fat %. Nothing more.And in order to build muscle, you need to lift heavy.Heavy enough to feel challenged when you lift your weights. If you can easily do a couple sets of 15 reps, it’s time to increase your weight!If you don’t progressively overload your muscles, you won’t get stronger, or build muscle.And as far as getting bulky goes, most women do not have enough testosterone nor are they willing to spend the hours and hours it takes of specific exercise to gain size.And as far as looking lean, that has to come from your diet, eating a diet of whole, unprocessed foods.🍎🍎🍳🥦🥑Now if you are just starting out, lifting light is GREAT!
