If you are considering a spring detox, the first thing you need to start with is water. Getting clients to drink adequate water is my #1 tip I start with when they are wanting to lose weight or get in shape.
WATER. Â I know this may seem simple but be honest, are there days where you didn’t meet your quota? Â Water is one of the most essential elements of health so this is non negotiable. Â Did you know that a person can survive for weeks without food, but only days without water?
First a few facts. Â
Water makes up more than 2/3rd of our body’s weight. Â The human brain is 95% water, blood is 82%, and lungs 90%. Â A mere 2% drop in our body’s water supply can trigger dehydration: fuzzy short term memory, difficulty focusing and daytime fatigue. Â (Are you having trouble staying energized- then drink up!)
Water is important to the mechanics of the human body. Â The body cannot work without it. Â Just as a car cannot run without gas and oil. Â In fact all of the cell and organ functions that make up our entire anatomy and physiology depend on water for their functioning.
Water serves as a lubricant in digestion and almost all other body processes. Water also lubricates our joints and cartilages and allows them to move more freely. When dehydrated, the body rations water away from the joints.  Less lubrication equals greater friction and that can cause  joint, knee and back pain potentially leading to injuries and arthritis.
Water helps our bodies remove toxins in many different ways. Â Water flushes toxins and wastes from the body through urination and perspiration. Â Water helps reduce constipation and aids in elimination which ensures that wastes are removed quickly and regularly-especially important when fiber is consumed. This lessens the load on the kidneys and liver by flushing out waste products.
Drink up! Â Aim to drink half of your body weight (kg) in ounces per day. Â Try sprucing your water up with a fresh lemon or lime, or choose herbal tea . Â Learn to crowd out other beverages such as juice, coffee, diet pop or alcohol. Â Fill up on water first!
Enough said? Â If you are still not convinced then read on. Â Here are some more reasons to keep that water going in.
- Do you want to look younger?  Your skin is your largest organ so when you are dehydrated your skin is dehydrated. You can look 5-10 yours older from just being dehydrated. Prevent those fine lines from turning into deep wrinkles simply by drinking water. Hit the bottle…(the water bottle that is).
- Do you constantly feel hungry? Do you have cravings for sugar and wheat? Next time you are about to grab for an unnecessary snack or having a craving, drink a glass of water.  Quite often the body confuses hunger with thirst. Water also acts as an appetite suppressant. Always try drinking a big glass of water before you act upon that sensation.
- Feeling bloated and having trouble zipping up your skinny jeans? Â Contrary to what you may think, filling up on water will not make you more bloated, water will in fact aid in digestion and elimination of wastes. Â So with all the extras that can add up over the winter, give your body a helping hand and be sure to drink up. Â When out celebrating, follow every alcoholic drink with a glass of water. Â You will drink less, and feel much better in the morning for it.
